Ding, Dong, 2008 is dead! A great year for entertainment but pretty miserable on just about every other scale. 2009 is going to be all about hope. Hope for the future both personally and in terms of America and the world. After spending New Years Eve with my wife watching Star Trek it's easy to be in a positive frame of mind.
I also spent a little bit of time scouring the New Years shows for fun. My impressions? Kellie Pickler is still entertaining to listen to, Carson Daly complains too much about the cold, Lionel Ritchie and Elton John still have "it" while newbies Taylor Swift and the Jonas Bros can't cut it live. Did like seeing high profile exes Taylor Swift and one of those Jonas kids spend a long time together on tv standing on some platform. Awkward! For me, the musical highlight was watching The Ting Ting's live. Which my wife accurately pegged as being very Blondie-ish.
And what do we have to look forward to in 2009? So far, there's a new Star Trek movie and Bruce Springsteen album lined up. Sounds like 1984 all over again. S-S-S-Sex Crimes! (robot voice) Nineteen Eighty Four. Sorry, went off on a Eurythmics tangent for a second.
Anyway, I woke up wanting to find the perfect song to start 2009. My IPOD randomly selected the right artist, Bob Marley! Let's get the party started with 'ol Bob, "Three Little Birds".

happy New Year Mr mike. Hope this year brings great joy to you and BunBun.
I have to agree about Swift and Jonas Bros. Have to know about both because of the Granddaughter. I thought they both sounded off last night. Maybe the cold?
I confess... I tuned in to see Dick Clark. As soon as those little pipsqueaks started "singing"... I changed the channel. Can't hack it. I give you extra points for listening to them because of your grand daughter, Pam. You are a Saint. Thank God Thomas is really into Dio, old GnR and Rush. He doesn't like pipsqueaks either. :)
Totally forgot to say: HAPPY NEW YEAR MR. MIKE!!! (you know me... the airhead blond) :)
I hope 2009 brings to you and Mrs. Mr. Mike the best and happiest times ever.
Happy New Year Pamwax and SKW! I hope both you and your families have a great year.
The cold may have affected the "pipsqueaks" (funny name, SKW!) but in Swift's case its the second time I've seen her perform live on TV. She can write a decent pop song (although she is considered Country) but live she lacks charisma and to use a Randy Jackson word, is pitchy. I'll cut the Jonas Bros some slack in that's the first time I've seen them perform anything, maybe an off night. Though I may not see them again because their music did not appeal to me. They did make me flashback to the Osmonds a bit though (I used to like the Osmonds and the Jackson 5).
Thomas has nice taste in music, by the way.
I think you will find that the Jonas Brothers are not all that live. Katie who is 10 and very musical used to think they were wonderful but on the last trip she was kind of lukewarm about them. I think she has picked up on the fact that while they my be cute they don't sing that well.
tehehe... smart girl, eh, Pam? Was not much of a Osmonds fan, myself, but then... I was always a weird little girl. When my sisters had pics of Donny Osmond and such on their walls, I had posters of Alice Cooper and Peter Frampton. Rock On! Yeh!
Cooper and Frampton are great! I can't claim as cool a taste in music as a kid, if I saw the Scooby Doo episode where the Osmonds and the Jackson 5 teamed up it was the highlight of my day.
